Special Flagpole Installation Dedication to Honor Three Oak Glen WWII Heroes and Their Families at Los Rios Rancho
Oak Glen, CA — April 18, 2026 — A special dedication and flagpole installation ceremony honoring three late World War II veterans from Oak Glen will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Los Rios Rancho, located at 39611 Oak Glen Road. The ceremony is part of the annual Apple Blossom Festival kickoff and will celebrate the legacies of local servicemen and the families (Anton, Law, Colby) whose contributions helped shape Oak Glen into the beloved apple-growing and tourist destination it is today.
The event will begin at 11:00 a.m., with live music starting at 10:30 a.m., inviting the community to gather early and enjoy the scenic orchard setting while paying tribute to local history and sacrifice.
Featured speaker Todd Anton, World War II historian and author, will share insights into Oak Glen’s role during the war years and honor the three local veterans who served their country during World War II, including one who was killed in action during the Normandy campaign. Anton is the grandson of Oak Glen legend Blackie Wilshire, and son of WWII/Korean War veteran Wally Anton, served on the Board of Trustees at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, bringing a unique personal and historical perspective to the program.
The ceremony will recognize not only the military service of these three men with a beautiful new flagpole installation, but also honoring the pioneering families whose orchards and community spirit transformed Oak Glen into a cherished Southern California destination known for its apple harvests, hospitality, and heritage.
Community members, veterans, families, and visitors attending the Apple Blossom Festival are invited to participate in this meaningful tribute with the combined partnerships of the High Desert's Tri-Community Kiwanis Club, Yucaipa Valley Kiwanis Club, The Oak Glen Apple Growers Association, and Los Rios Rancho
